‘I was starting my first day at a new job, then I had an unexpected delivery’

“Hi Karen, so I won’t be able to start today as discussed… You’ll never believe what happened to me this morning.”

Mum says she had no idea she was pregnant until her mum looked up her school skirt

When Rivvah woke up in the morning, the first thing on her mind was preparing for the first day at her new job.

It was July 2022 and Rivvah woke up early to get ready for the first day at her new work gig. But shortly after getting out of bed, she felt something wrong.

She had no idea she was pregnant and was going into labour

“I was supposed to start my new job in the morning I gave birth”

The Nottinghamshire woman took to TikTok to share her phenomenal story, starting with a selfie taken earlier in her pregnancy.

She reportedly had “no idea” she was expecting a baby when she took the photo, but things took a turn when she started feeling pain in the morning.

The labour pains began while she was in her bedroom, she explained in the clip, before realising her baby was in a breech position.

A breech birth means the baby is located the wrong way around before going into labour, with its feet positioned at the base of the uterus rather than its head, which is the ideal position for birth.

Despite not even knowing she was expecting a baby, Rivvah sprung into action.

According to her post, the British woman was left with no choice but to give birth to her baby all alone, still in shock after learning the news.

Soon she welcomed a healthy baby boy, Oakley, to the world, but that wasn't the only kicker.

“[I] was supposed to start my new job in the morning I gave birth,” she laughed.

After months of not knowing she was pregnant, Rivvah may have thought she had just missed the signs of her new arrival, but she was actually experiencing a cryptic pregnancy

Usually, someone with a cryptic pregnancy will not have the same symptoms as another expectant parent, with some people not realising they’re having a child until they get into labour.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, cryptic pregnancies are “relatively uncommon”, with roughly one in 475 pregnancies going unnoticed until 20 weeks of gestation.

However, cases like Rivvah’s are even rarer, with one in 2,500 people not realising they’re pregnant until they reach active labour.

Despite the unexpected arrival, Rivvah couldn’t have been happier with her new little friend.

“We are so overwhelmed, you’re loved so much already, so so happy,” she said on social media.

“New fear unlocked”

The clip quickly went viral, with TikTok users shocked by the idea of someone having no idea they’re pregnant until they give birth.

“New fear unlocked,” someone wrote in horror.

“You’re a superhuman!” a fan shared. “I can’t imagine delivering at my house, BREECH and not even knowing I was pregnant.”

“What an amazing story!” wrote a third. “You should be proud of yourself!”

Others thought Rivva’s baby had the perfect timing to enter the world.

“Hi Karen, so I won’t be able to start today as discussed… Why? Well, buckle up coz you’ll never believe what happened to me this morning” someone laughed.

“I mean I know it wasn’t the job you were expecting to start but it’s a pretty good one if you ask me,” another added.
