‘I let my 2yo draw all over the floor of my rental - it heals my inner child’

“I had to grow up way too fast because of my father. I’m letting my daughter do the silly kid stuff,” Kira says in the viral video.

Kira was cooking dinner in the kitchen when her two-year-old daughter approached her with a handful of crayons.

The toddler asked her mum if she could draw on their furniture, and Kira instantly shut the idea down.

But when her 2yo asked to draw on the floor instead, Kira responded very differently. Now she's hitting back at haters who argued she was being bossed around by her child.

Mum divides internet by letting her toddler draw on the floor

Mum lets toddler scribble on floor of her rental property

The video begins with a pan to the ash-grey floorboards of their rented home, which appeared to look scuffed and covered in unusual markings.

Looking closer, you see it is actually hundreds of red and blue squiggly lines and circles, hand-drawn by her 2yo.

“She asked me first, and I said yes. She tried to ask if she could colour on the cabinet and I said no, and she listened,” Kira said in the clip

“She knows this is only allowed right here.”

According to the viral TikTok, when Kira lets her toddler run rampant with a crayon on the floor, it’s “healing her inner child.”

Despite living in a rental property, the American woman has no issue with her child drawing all over the floor, as it “can all be cleaned.”

Thankfully, a later video confirmed the crayon marks had been removed. “[The] floor is all clean, and it took a full minute,” she said.

“Nah, my child can draw on paper”

The video quickly went viral and racked up over 300,000 views online. While some praised the woman for letting her child express herself, others were less than impressed.

“It’s not healing anything other than letting your kid boss you around,” someone commented.

“What. The. Actual f**k,” a shocked person said. “You’re a renter. Why would you let your kid do this.”

“Sooooo you can't just say no, can you draw on paper?” asked another. “Nah, mine can draw on paper,” wrote a fourth. “Don’t feel that’s causing trauma by not letting wreck your house.”

The question of “boundaries” was also raised.  “But will she understand those boundaries [in] other places like school or other homes?” someone asked.

But others loved the idea and explained why this technique could help someone “heal their inner child.”

“People that miss the point didn't have parents who wouldn't let you be a kid,” someone wrote.

Kira agreed. “I had to grow up way too fast because of my father,” she responded. “I’m letting my daughter do the silly kid stuff.”

Some suggested creating a specific space for her daughter to draw rather than the floor.

“Have you thought about painting one wall with chalk paint?” someone asked. Sadly, Kira said it was unlikely her landlord would allow such a thing.

“Designate a wall in your house to tape on giant paper, and that can be the colouring wall,” read another recommendation.  “We use chalk on the floors of our house, super easy to clean and it’s fun for everyone!” a mum shared.
