'I hired a storage unit to cheat on my husband'

“We bought a mattress and some other basics like sheets and set it up as our little sex room."

Woman discovers dead husband was cheating

A married mother has confessed to the sneaky way she has been hiding a long-running affair from her husband.

Married mother of two, *Sophie says that she has been involved in an extramarital affair with *Jason, a married father-of-three for over three years now.

The relationship, she says, is one based on friendship with benefits, but with the benefit component being kept secret to preserve their respective marriages.

“We adore each other and are physical soul mates,” Sophie tells Kidspot. “But romantically, or anything at a deeper level, well for me that belongs to my husband,” she adds.

The two met through mutual friends over a decade ago and would occasionally be attending the same events.

“When we first met, we would talk as a part of a larger group but over time we got to know each other more and found we had shared interests and got along really well. There was also, always, a spark. And the more we came to know one another, the more that spark grew,” Sophie says.

The two began to flirt, casually grazing past one another when walking by, or touching the other’s hand when passing a drink. Sophie knew Jason was interested because he would always find her when he came into the room and work out ways to sit or stand next to her.

But it wasn’t for over five years of what Sophie labels “this innocent flirtation” that the pair acted upon their feelings.

"The care factor was gone, so we went for it"

After a night out in 2021, Sophie and Jason found themselves the last two standing after attending a friend’s birthday celebration. It was on the dance floor, that the pair shared their first kiss.

“We were very drunk by his point and without anyone we knew around, the care factor was gone so we went for it.”

The kiss, Sophie says was everything she imagined it would be, a result of that attraction they shared but also of the pent-up flirtation that had now been going on for years.

That night they had sex in the nightclub’s bathroom and after this, she says that they have never stopped.

“In the first few months, Jason would come into my work at the end of the day. I worked in retail and was always the last and only staff member left. I’d close up and we’d head into the storeroom and have sex wherever we could find a spot,” she says.

“This worked well because there was rarely ever anyone around and he is a tradie so is always on the road so no suspicions would be aroused.”

"If I was sexually satisfied, I wouldn't be having sex with Jason"

Eventually, though, Sophie moved jobs and the arrangement could no longer work. This is when the couple decided to rent a storage container in a suburb mid-way between their homes.

“We bought a mattress and some other basics like sheets and set it up as our little sex room,” Sophie laughs.

“It doesn’t cost a lot between us and because Jason can pay with cash, there isn’t any electronic trail, so it works well,” she says.

When it comes to feeling guilt or remorse about cheating on their spouses, Sophie says that while of course, they don’t like going behind their partners’ backs, ultimately the relationship is transactional and serves a physical purpose and need, one that isn’t fulfilled in their marriages.

“If I was sexually satisfied with my husband, I wouldn’t be having sex with Jason,” she says.

“But I love my husband and want to be with him in every other way, that’s not how I feel about Jason. Jason is in the same boat as me in this regard, so for us, it’s not an issue.”

"We have a well-executed plan"

With no plans to share their relationship status with anyone else or to stop what they are doing, neither Jason nor Sophie believe that their behaviour raises any suspicion (even from the storage facility employees), or that they will get caught.

“We have a well-executed plan, top secret, so I can’t divulge, but there have been no hiccups so far, so I am confident it will remain this way.”

She does say though, that it involves a lot of scheduling and with kids, this can be a juggle.

“It takes work, but the work is worth it,” Sophie says.
