Fashion has always been a form of self-expression.
My four-year-old’s favourite outfit right now is a pair of size eight stretchy Avengers swim trunks, t-shirt tucked in and sunnies.
Yes, I’m aware it’s winter.
He often asks me if he looks cool, and of course I have to agree, he does indeed look cool, maybe even cold.
So there’s that kind of self-expression, and then there’s the kind that comes across as lazy and maybe a bit red-flaggy.
Take the wedding ensemble worn by the groom in a viral post on the “That’s It, I’m Wedding Shaming” Facebook group.

The bride looks very normal in a traditional white dress and veil, but the groom looks like a staff member at Australia Zoo, or maybe an escaped inmate from a prison.
Instead of the classic suit or tux ensemble, the groom is wearing a khaki set: matching short-sleeved oversized shirt, tapered cargo pants and a fresh pair of blue and white sneakers.
To his credit, the sneakers look brand new, and his outfit is nicely pressed.

Groom slammed for questionable wedding outfit
Group members didn’t hesitate to pile on in the comments, slamming the groom for this bizarre fashion sense.
“This isn’t meant to be disrespectful at all, but is he an inmate?” one person asked. It’s unclear if they were taking the p**s or genuinely curious. “Just wondering how those types of weddings work. I’m only asking because of the location and his outfit.”

The bride joined the comments, explaining how they’d been looking for a budget-friendly wedding suit for him and settled on something from the rapper Snoop Dogg’s fashion line, sold at Walmart.
“We used the cheapest possible [outfit] and he liked it… until he got dressed and he was like, ‘Oh sh***’.”
Although it was noble of her to defend her husband, there are holes in the explanation.
Like what kind of person doesn’t try on their wedding clothes until the day of the ceremony? And why when the groom thought of “wedding suit” did Snoop Doggy Dogg’s clothing line seem appropriate?

Plenty of people agreed.
“I don’t know what’s worse. Your fiancé showing up to your wedding as a felon or a Snoop Dogg cosplayer,” one person said.
Others joined the commentary to point out that the celebrant was wearing black plastic slide sandals with white socks.
“The marriage officiants shoes? So much to look at,” one person said.
