"How hard is it to clean up?"

In the viral footage, Beau, who goes by the handle "Beau the Legend" on TikTok, publically shames the parents by filming the mess they left underneath some high chairs.

Zooming in on chunks of bread on the carpet, he says, "I don't care who you are as a parent, leaving a f**king restaurant like that is disgusting."

He continued: "Surely it's not that hard to pick up after your kids."

"You gotta feel sorry for the wait staff," he added in the caption.

"I would never let my customer get down on the floor"

And while his wait staff argument might be compelling as it takes the moral high ground, lots of hospitality workers actually defended the parents in the comment section.

Some even said they'd "never" let them clean up their mess.

"I would never let my customer get down on the floor and start picking up crumbs. That’s part of my job," said one waitress.

Then another agreed, writing, "I’m a waiter and I’ve seen grown adults leave bigger messes, I don’t mind cleaning up after the babies."

Then parents weighed in, with one saying, "My son made a mess like this, I went to ask the lady at the cafe for a broom and she told me not to worry it’s her job. She told me mine was to relax."

"The crumbs a kid makes are hard to pick up," another user pointed out. "Unless you bring your vacuum with you. I just make sure I tip well."

"When the kids are screaming and ready to go, what are you meant to do?" mused another mum.

"Imagine their home"

However, other commenters sided with Beau, agreeing that it is uncouth and parents should pick up after their kids.

"Exactly, bend and pick up the pieces, what goes on in their head," one user remarked.

"If my child has made a massive mess I clean it," wrote a second, while a third said: "Right!! It's not hard."

"Amen," another TikToker praised. "Imagine their home."

"I always pick up after my kids. No matter what. This is terrible," slammed one mum.

"I used to ask for a broom and a dustpan to sweep up after my son," responded another.

"The LEAST you can do is pick up the massive dropped chunks and pop them on a plate," someone claimed.

The Kidspot team weighs in on 'High chair gate'

To find out more about where people stand on the matter, I reached out to the wider Kidspot team to get their thoughts.

"Your kid, your mess," said Nama.

"They could have picked up the bigger pieces," Carly pointed out.

And then Char said, "I always make an effort to clean up after my own little grubs, that is nobody else's job. But sometimes, the need to vacate a venue quickly (read: before Witching Hour kicks in and the tantrums escalate) outweighs the sense of responsibility I feel to pick up every scrap of food before departing. No judgement from me."

Finally, Leah concluded: "I think it's pretty gross and inconsiderate. Little crumbs, I can maybe understand but these are big pieces."
