'Can I start a petition for kids?' Mum shares the scariest place on a plane

"My toddler was terrified and not gonna lie, so was I."

Plane etiquette tips all frequent flyers need to know

One of the scariest things about flying is something no one likes to admit.

It's not take off, or landing, or being very, very high in the air.

It's the long, loud sound of the toilet flushing

One mum recently described the true terror that is the plane toilet flush, in the context of her daughter's reluctance to even be in the cubicle - but many weren't prepared to admit they felt the same way as a toddler.

"She was terrified of the bathroom"

Mumfluencer Victoria Maria Yavny, who goes by @toriyav on TikTok, shared a clip of herself and toddler crammed into the bathroom cubicle.

“Can I start a petition to make more kid-friendly bathrooms on the plane?” she captioned the clip - which now has more than 4.4 million views.

She added that her daughter “held her pee for 5 hours because she was terrified of the bathroom.

"NGL [not gonna lie]  so was I. [It] didn’t help that the light didn’t work so it felt like we were in a nightclub.”

The mum tells her little girl, "Mummy’s here we’ll give it a try.” But the answer is "no."

"Lock the door and the light goes on"

Many viewers did not appreciate the post, and wrote as much in the comments.

“I also would scream if my mum tried to record me going to the bathroom,” read one of the top comments.

Another slammed the mum by noting, "So scared that you had time to set up the camera first!!"

Then this person laughed, "Not only do we all have to deal with kids screaming on planes, but now parents want the entire structure revamped for them."

There was also a sensible suggestion: “If you lock the door the light turns on.”

And this request: "Can we normalise teaching our kids not to be afraid on toilets?"

Other viewers made unhelpful remarks such as suggesting Victoria travel without her daughter, and, "If you spend less time setting up your phone to record the experience I’m sure you’ll have an easier time, hope that helps."

There were also some who shared a similar fear, such as this person who wrote, "I'm 20 now and I have to admit I am still afraid of every new toilet that isn't the one in my home."

And this viewer who confessed: "Honestly I'm 17 and I literally have to stop and put my fingers in my ears before the toilet flushes because I hate it so much."

There were some who helpfully suggested packing nappy pants for these situations, and many parents who wanted to add that change tables would also be useful.
