Outback Wrangler Matt Wright’s wife shares baby bombshell
As Matt Wright watched the jury deliver his verdict in the Supreme Court, his wife sat hiding a secret from the rest of the courtroom.
Celebrity crocodile wrangler Matt Wright faces an uncertain future as his wife Kaia reveals the couple are due to welcome their third baby.
The impending birth has amplified the anxiety for the couple who have faced four weeks of a highly-publicised Supreme Court trial that Kaia sat through pregnant, which saw Wright convicted of two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Mrs Wright confirmed the news when contacted by news.com.au, saying the newest addition to their family is due in April next year.
She said: “It’s a huge blessing during what has been a hellish time of media onslaught and ongoing bullying. It’s brought my focus back to what is good, true and beautiful, and that’s our family, it’s what really matters.”
The Wrights have two children, six-year-old Banjo and Dusty who is nearly three. Wright’s legal team will be appealing the charges on October 7 with sentencing submissions scheduled for December 11.
This comes as Mrs Wright revealed she was “shocked and appalled” at suggestion she and her husband Matt fled Darwin in August 2022 when he realised he was being investigated as part of the probe into the fatal helicopter crash that killed his best mate Chris Willow Wilson.
One week following the crash in March 2022, Mrs Wright booked to have her second baby with her obstetrician in the Gold Coast.
She was planning to be there for six months for specialist care because she was suffering from endometriosis.
She has always been open about her struggles and posted on social media to help other women and raise awareness.
She is disgusted at the suggestion by police that it was “an impulsive move” and questioned why they would choose to drive so far rather than fly.
“When you move to another state for the short term, you take your car,” Mrs Wright said.
The jury found Wright guilty of two charges that stemmed from events after a 2022 helicopter crash that killed his co-star, Chris “Willow” Wilson, and left pilot Sebastian Robinson with catastrophic injuries. The jury could not reach a verdict on a third charge.
He strongly maintains his innocence and has appealed the verdicts. Wright was accused of lying to crash investigators about the amount of fuel in the machine, of trying to get Robinson to falsify flying hours, and of asking a friend to “torch” the helicopter’s maintenance release.
The Northern Territory police said they would confirm next week whether or not there is any ongoing investigation into the pilot involved in a fatal chopper crash, after a court heard evidence of him having used cocaine in the hours before the flight and evidence the helicopter ran out of fuel.
Robinson has not been charged with any offences relating to the fatal crash or the evidence heard at Wright’s criminal trial.
After being found guilty on his 46th birthday in August, Wright gave a statement saying: “This has been a terrible and tragic process for everyone involved. There have been no winners out of it.
“Willow’s family have lost a father, husband, son and brother. We’ve lost a best mate,” he said.
“Seb is seriously injured and in a wheelchair.
“The ordeal has been incredibly tough on everyone and it’s always been hard to understand why the focus of these investigations have been solely on me and not on the cause of the crash.
“I’m obviously disappointed in the verdict and have an appeal in process.”
The high-profile trial heard of friendships torn apart – with two opposing camps firmly cemented.
Sources close to the Wrights say the publicity “continues to focus on Matt Wright and seems to be ignoring the facts that have been thoroughly and forensically delivered in the ATSB report”.
“Police are saying they will never have the answers, when the answers are right in front of them in the ATSB report,” a close friend said.
“It’s a really sad state of affairs when a friendship group is ripped apart and then mud is slung, confusing the cause of the crash when the evidence is clear that the chopper wasn’t refuelled. There are no winners in this. It’s a tragedy for everyone involved,” another friend said.
