Open Season for deer hunters has started with closed-off areas

The annual deer hunt opened on Saturday, but regular recreational hunting areas in the state’s Central Highlands remain closed to ensure hunter safety was not compromised by falling trees or other hazards.

THE ongoing impact of Tasmania’s bushfire crisis is being felt in the start of the deer hunting season.

The annual deer hunt opened on Saturday, but regular recreational hunting areas in the state’s Central Highlands remain closed to ensure hunter safety was not compromised by falling trees or other hazards.

Both Top Marshes and Five Mile Pinnacles Conservation zone remain off limits to hunting.

The 2019 deer game season is conducted in two parts – an adult male (stag) component and antlerless (doe) component. The stag season opened on Saturday and runs to March 31. The antlerless season is conducted from March 9 to March 31, and then May 11 to June 30.
