YESTERDAY'S Minifest in Hobart was the highlight of an 8000km journey for Queenslanders Keith and Carol Gould.

The event at the Hobart Regatta Grounds was held to celebrate the Mini Car Club of Tasmania's 50th anniversary.

The Goulds have been touring Tasmania in their distinctive 1971 Morris Mini van for the past fortnight, along with three other Mini-obsessed couples.

They will spend the next two weeks making their way back to Brisbane.

They had no qualms about making the long trip in such a compact, 42-year-old car.

"We've had a few hiccups but nothing we couldn't fix on the side of the road," said Mrs Gould, who planned the trip to coincide with her husband's 65th birthday.

Mr Gould has owned a series of Minis over the past 40 years and tends to paint the Union Jack and Southern Cross onto each one.

The couple won the main prize in yesterday's raffle, which is accommodation in Hobart and the use of a new BMW for a weekend.

"As soon as we get home we're going to have to look at cheap flights to come back again," Mrs Gould said.
