‘A fight to get one’: Popular Bluey item is back on Bunnings aisles

Last time there were lines at 6am, with Aussies reporting that shoppers were fighting to get their hands on this popular Bunnings item.

Aussie fans, both young and old, are about to shout “Wackadoo!”, as a fan-favourite item lands back on Bunnings shelves nationwide.

The ABC’s hit show ‘Bluey’ is leaving its pawprint on the festive season, with a new line of its beloved garden gnomes landing in stores from today.

The limited-edition range has previously seen viral success and even triggered some insane eBay resale prices.

In previous drops, shoppers have been lining up outside stores as early as 6am to get their hands on one.

This drop is expected to be no different, with exciting new additions for fans to spend true dollarbucks on.

This time, the $19 figurines will include a new friend – a Santa-inspired pooch.

Bunnings is also selling Bluey pool floaties and a boogie board decorated with the show’s playful designs as part of the collaboration, which also sees the hardware store host themed kids DIY workshops and scavenger hunts.

The initial collaboration, which saw stores transform into Bluey’s Hammerbarn, first happened in early 2004, and was inspired by a popular season 2 episode of the show.

In it, the Heeler family heads to the hardware store to pick up supplies for a few home projects. But it’s a trip that quickly turns into a familiar parenting moment, complete with the sound of siblings bickering in the trolley.

The kids play a game of make-believe while Mum Chilli fills the trolley. Tensions and sisterly rivalry begin to rise when things aren’t split evenly between them.

When two gnomes, dubbed “husbands”, are placed into the trolley, Bluey becomes jealous that Bingo’s “husband” has a shovel. Things escalate until, unfortunately, a gnome breaks, leading to the episode’s heartfelt teachable moment, for kids and parents alike.

Since airing, the “Hammerbarn” episode has become a fan favourite, and Bunnings has truly leaned into the hype.

The gnomes even have names, including Hecuba, Tony, Jeremy, Meditation and Gerald.

Bunnings has been turning up the Hammerbarn vibes since February 2024, with fans getting more and more excited with each release.

The most recent drop in early October flew off the shelves, leaving plenty of disappointed shoppers who missed out.

“Went at 6am and it was a fight to get one,” reported one shopper on Facebook at the time.

“There was a rush at 6am in Kirrawee, they are all gone now,” another added.

As one commented: “I missed out last year, am going to try my luck later.”

In July, the hardware chain was forced to implement a purchase limit of four per customer, to prevent bulk-buying. However, many have still reported leaving stores empty-handed and tearful.

This festive range marks the third release of the year, giving fans another chance to snag a piece of the fun.

However, they’re being encouraged to run, not walk, because stock is limited and they’re expected to disappear from shelves fast.
