It could be a case of winner, winner, chicken lunch for Hello Neighbour.

The Hyde Park eatery’s buttermilk fried chicken and waffles, with maple syrup and sriracha mayo is a finalist in this year’s delicious. 100.

Hello Neighbour’s dish is among five finalists in the fried chicken category, along with offerings from Motherlode, Koko, Cheekies Hot Chicken and Ban Ban. The winners are being decided by a people’s choice voting system.

Described by our reviewer as “a gourmet grease and sugar hit”, Good Neighbour’s chicken and waffles are a popular choice with diners.

Regular customer Tayla McKay, 26, who says she’s had “one of everything on the menu” said the dish was her go-to.

“I order it quite often,” she said. “It’s just a unique twist on classic fried chicken … sweet and savoury at the same time.”

Hello Neighbour also has a unique twist in the sense that the daytime cafe turns into gnocchi bar Artusi By Night in the evenings.

Voting in the 20 delicious. 100 categories – which include donuts, banh mi, croissants, sushi, laksa, vanilla slices and more – closes at 5.30am on Friday, November 3, with the winners announced on Saturday, November 4.
