As fans continue to make sense of Liam Payne's shocking death, harrowing images have emerged that expose what may have been happening shortly before the former One Direction star tragically plunged to his death from a hotel balcony in Argentina. 

Leaked photos taken from the singer's hotel room and verified by local Argentinian media outlet, La Nacion, allegedly show alcohol and drugs in Liam's hotel room.

Inside Liam's hotel room 

At closer inspection, the images also show a half-empty wine glass, burnt foil, a packet of soap, burnt candles, and what appear to be random bottle lids. 

Another snap making headlines shows what was one of Liam's final sightings before his death as he waited for an elevator in the hotel, and another shows more burnt foil in the bathtub. 

According to La Nacion, the powder is currently being tested.

Liam's tragic death

The 31-year-old musician and father to seven-year-0ld son Bear is believed to have fallen from the fourth floor of a hotel at approximately 5 p.m. Buenos Aires time as reported by local media. 

La Nacion was the first to report the news, saying that police went to the area after a call from the hotel manager to 911.

According to the publication, "it was a fall of around thirteen or fourteen meters" and there was no possibility of resuscitation.

It is believed the star died instantly from multiple injuries sustained in his fall that led to “internal and external haemorrhaging,” preliminary autopsy results have shown.

While a toxicology report is yet to come, it is believed that the prosecutor's office handling the case will make an official statement with more details at a later time.

Harrowing final moments

News.com.au reports that Argentinian officials had received an emergency call on Wednesday afternoon regarding an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” according to Pablo Policicchio, communications director for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry.

According to La Nacion, sources close to the investigation also claimed that Liam's body was found alongside “a bottle of whiskey, a lighter and a cellphone.”

Messages of tribute for the star have started to surface online, with celebrities like Paris Hilton and Charlie Puth expressing their shock at the news.

Puth took to his Instagram Stories where he remembered Payne for being 'so kind' to him.

"I am in shock right now," he wrote. "Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I can not believe he is gone."

Meanwhile, Paris Hilton said: "So upsetting to hear the news of (Liam Payne) passing. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend."
