Ava Reeves from Ballarat, Victoria, was fed up with spending excessive amounts of money on expensive women’s fashion brands.

So the 18-year-old started looking to budget retailers like Target and Kmart to save money while still achieving a high-end, fashionable look.

Her latest TikTok video has amassed over 230,000 views after she took her followers to Kmart to demonstrate how she bought five items for the same price as one top from another popular retailer.

“I love Kmart, they’ve definitely stepped up,” she told news.com.au. “I’ve always shopped for pyjamas and knits there. I get compliments on them all the time. When I tell people they’re from Kmart, they just don’t believe me.

“I’ve noticed so many great items in Kmart recently, so I went to try some on.”

In the clip titled, “Just a girl saving money one Kmart trip at a time,” she showcased five of her latest purchases in the changerooms.

She bought the Sleeveless Rib Boat Neck Top for $10, the Sleeveless Rib Tank for $5, Wide Leg Pocket Jeans for $30, Plisse Pants for $15, and the Sleeveless Bubble Hem Top.

Her total came to $78.15.

“I’m just over fashion brands being so pricey,” she said. “For one top to cost so much, it’s just not affordable, especially when you buy a statement item that you don’t want to wear more than a few times.”

“So I’m currently trying to buy staples and basics to build out my wardrobe. I’ve managed to find cheaper items that still make the look feel expensive and good without costing an arm and a leg.

“I’m definitely a saver – I look for stuff I can buy and wear multiple times.”

As she works in admin and as a barista, she’s also always on the lookout for clothes suitable for both workplaces and thinks that Kmart fits the bill perfectly.

Ms Reeves isn’t alone in her shopping approach, as evidenced by the huge response to her video.

“I just did the same thing when I went to Kmart the other day, haha. Had me thinking, damn, how much did I pay for one thing from Kookai? Crazy,” said one user.

Kookai tanks start at about $60 and can reach up to $130.

“This is the kind of video I NEEDED to see tonight. Girl maths – you’re saving my bank account tonight. Thank you,” commented another.

“Kmart is a girls’ girl,” joked a third.

“You’re doing God’s work,” praised a fourth, while someone else begged her to post more videos like this.
