Diversity and empowerment showcased at Miss Multicultural NT

A unique pageant will showcase the Territory’s multiculturalism this weekend. Read why it’s different.

Contestants are putting on the finishing touches as they prepare to go through their paces at Sunday’s Miss Multicultural NT.

The event is the largest pageant of its type currently held in the Northern Territory, and will showcase our divserity and broad ethnic base.

Miss Multicultural NT founder Lee Plowman said the event is designed to empower women from diverse backgrounds, as well as to celebrate culture and to prepare women “for life long impact”.

This year 21-contestants will compete for the title.

“This is not just a beauty pageant, it’s a personal empowerment journey,” Ms Plowman said.

“Participants experience personal transformation, gain clarity, heal and reclaim their confidence. They build sustainable self-worth, cultivate leadership identity, and gain tools to advocate for themselves and others.”

Leading up to this weekend’s pageant, a number of events were held during the year to prepare contestants for their turn. It began in May with a so-called ‘Strut and Shine’ workshop, followed by a high tea, empowerment weekend and body confidence empowerment walk in September.

The six-month process culminates in Sunday’s final, with contestants taking to the stage to showcase their confidence, leadership and cultural pride.

“Unlike a traditional beauty contest, Miss Multicultural NT is not about looks, it’s about empowerment and personal growth.”

The event begins at 4.30pm at DoubleTree by Hilton on The Esplanade and includes a cultural dress showdown, evening gown presentation and dinner and drinks.

Tickets can be bought from www.missmcnt.au.
