HOBART’s renowned Chinese restaurant Me Wah has been named Australia’s Best Asian Restaurant.

The Sandy Bay eatery was recognised at the Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering Awards in Brisbane.

Me Wah Restaurant managing director Stephen Tso said he was delighted to win the award for the second time after receiving it in 2008.

Mr Tso said as well as assessing the food, judges were looking at every aspect of the customer service experience.

“We always try to have polished service,” he said. “The food has to be sensational but the service has to be exceptional too to make the food even better and we try and do all the finer details to get it there.”

The restaurant has won Tasmania’s Restaurant Of The Year and Tasmania’s Best Asian Restaurant a number of times but staff were thrilled to be recognised on a national stage.

They have also received prizes for their beverage offerings, winning Australia’s Wine List Of The Year Awards and Tasmania’s Best Wine List for three consecutive years, entering the Hall of Fame.

More than 220 restaurants, cafes and catering businesses were judged across 41 categories at the restaurant and catering awards.
