THE Ranelagh Showgrounds will come alive this long weekend with the annual celebration of the Huon Valley and Channel’s food, wine, entertainment, arts and crafts.

The 24th Taste of the Huon is expected to attract more than 25,000 visitors tomorrow and Monday.

Specifically promoted at the festival are the Huon region’s apples, cherries, mushrooms, salmon, grapes, berries and truffles.

Celebrity chef Matthew Evans, from Gourmet Farmer, will also bring produce from his Fat Pig Farm.

Entertainment will include the DayStar Duo, Peter Hicks and the Blues Licks, the Cygnet Jazz Collective and big name Russell Morris on his only tour stop in Tasmania.

Owner of Cradoc’s Duggan Brand Apples and Pears Mark Duggan will have a variety of juices for sale, from plain apple to apples infused with strawberry, apricot, raspberry or blackcurrant.

He said all fruit was sourced from the Huon Valley and he was thrilled to be taking part in the event for a ninth year.

“It’s a local event and it’s very good for exposure,” he said. “There’s great entertainment and just a wonderful atmosphere.”

Festival manager Roger Oates said this year there will be extra parking available with a shuttle bus operating to the showgrounds.
