Aussie's vent about camping etiquette rule no one seems to follow

"That's not cool right?" the annoyed woman asked other campers in the video.

Australia's Social Conventions: A Guide for First-Time Visitors

I have one rule when my family goes camping: no one gets to complain about how uncomfortable they are.

It's expected that you'll miss all those creature comforts you're fortunate to have at home before heading on the road for a "holiday" in the great outdoors.

But what about privacy? Where do you draw the line when you're sharing a site with other travellers? This is a question one woman has asked her fellow campers on social media recently.

Is it OK to walk through this gap?

Keen camper, Nicole, who has been sharing some of her adventures of travelling around Australia on TikTok, recently took to the platform to share something that was bothering her during a recent stay at a campsite.

"OK, I've got a question for everyone. This is campsite etiquette, right?

"Say you have your spot, right there... nice big clearway where we put our stuff and yet people think it's OK to walk through," she shared, along with a little tour of the spot she was referring to.

What is the etiquette walking through someone's campsite?

The footage shows a small gap of probably no more than two metres between her trailer, complete with camping shares sitting outside the door and their car.

Of all places to walk through, this is the path that many guests have chosen to use.

"That's not cool right? Just confirm because we're getting really pissed off," Nicole goes on to vent.

Campers have their say

A lot of people felt for the Aussie, confirming that they too would be annoyed if this happened to them during their travels.

"Definitely not, it's like walking through your house. Not on," one person commented.

"Common courtesy to walk other side of car I would have thought," another person added.

And another agreed: "My biggest pet hate, people walking through my paid-for site."

Others said they could certainly relate because of something similar happening to them.

"We literally had people walk between our ropes on our camper and gazebo. 🙄 Some people just have no idea," someone shared.

Other campers said she needed to be smarter with her space and either move the car closer to the trailer or build an obvious area around the space - moving the chairs forward, grabbing a large mat or creating some sort of barrier to prevent any walkers using the space.

Is camping ever private?

And then came the campers who said having people walking around is the whole point of camping and the Aussie traveller just needed to "chill".

"You’re camping! Supposed to be chillin. Grab a beer and say hello to them. Can’t expect privacy in a packed camp site," someone chimed in.

And another added: "We had a campsite right at the river and people were using the edge of our site right near our awning to walk down to the water. Guess what? We met heaps of lovely people that were walking through our site, some sat and had a beer with us, and no harm was done and we had a great weekend!"

Would this annoy you?
