Two prominent Tasmanians have been tasked to fill Triple M Hobart’s breakfast radio slot after Brian ‘Spoonman’ Carlton abruptly stepped down early last month.
Esther “Woody” Nichols and Andy “Tubes” Taylor will take over Triple M Breakfast on February 15, and will be the first Tasmanian-born duo to do so.
Hobart audiences may remember Nichols from the Paul and Woody Show between 2013 -2017 on Hit100.9.
The journalism and international relations major got her start producing the radio show Charles Wooley Across Australia which broadcasted nationally from Hobart in the mid-2000s.
“Getting back into the studio will be a great distraction for my current and severe Hobart e-scooter addiction, Nichols exclaimed.
“As a sixth generation Tassie gal, I’m beyond excited to have the opportunity to help create a show truly about Hobart, with Hobart, and for Hobart.”
In contrast, the breakfast show will be Taylor’s first full-time radio gig, who has frequented ABC Hobart and local sports commentary.
“I’m excited to be paired with Woody to start Hobart’s day, we live in the best place in the world and I can’t think of anywhere better to raise my young family,” he said.
Triple M Hobart Content Director, Phil Bradley said Triple M Breakfast with Woody & Tubes will promote the best of what Hobart has to offer while tackling the biggest issues of the day.
“(Woody and Tubes will) speak to Hobart’s politicians about what matters most to locals and undoubtably give Hobart the latest community news, best events, music, laughs and giveaways available nowhere else,“ he said.
Carlton, who had been in the breakfast chair for Triple M since 2019, stepped away from the role abruptly in early February citing poor health.
“What a privilege it has been to broadcast to the people of my favourite city on Triple M, despite these very tough times,” he said.
