The Block fans fume over ‘worst episode ever’

The Block fans were seeing red as Sunday night’s episode wore on, with many taking to social media to voice their complaints.

Block contestants Sharon and Ankur slam the show in radio interview

Sundays have always been the biggest night of the week for The Block fans, as the show’s three judges arrive to inspect all the contestants’ handiwork from the previous week.

So many Block viewers were bitterly disappointed last night when they settled in to watch what they thought would be the final judging of the season – only to be met with a 90-minute clip show.

To be fair, there was some new material in Sunday’s episode, which showed each team’s race to finish the mammoth task that is landscape week. We saw Ankur and Sharon’s final, tense goodbye with their carpenter, who declared he’d never again work on The Block as he left them to finish landscaping by themselves, 16 hours before tools down.

Sunday's episode took us all the way back to each couple's intro package.

But much of Sunday’s episode was devoted to recapping each couple’s journey throughout the 12 weeks of The Block – which left a sour taste in many viewers’ mouths as the episode wore on and they realised they weren’t going to see the judges give their final critiques for the season.

Some fans even channelled their inner Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons to declare it the “worst episode ever”:

Fear not, Block fans, because Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Neale Whittaker do front up for tonight’s penultimate episode of the season, casting their eye over each team’s outdoor landscaping – and some teams fare a lot better than others.

From there, the season finishes on Sunday as all five homes go to auction.

Meanwhile, The Block host Scott Cam revealed in a recent interview that he’ll be demanding some big changes next season, so fed up is he with the budgetary woes that plagued some contestants this year.

“They just keep spending. I think we might have to change the rules next year,” he revealed, telling Block colleague Shelley Craft on the show’s official podcast that he’d be meeting with producers to discuss changes that will keep future contestants on a tighter financial leash.
