The Block carpenter’s brutal exit from show on second-last day

A shocking exit from Sharon and Ankur’s carpenter in the final hours of The Block showed just how bad relations had become between them.

Block contestants slam the show in radio interview

The Block teams raced to put the finishing touches on their mammoth properties during Sunday’s episode, with just one day to go until host Scott Cam would call “tools down” for the final time this season.

But amid all the chaos, one tense scene between Sharon and Ankur and their carpenter Scotty showed just how much their relationship had nosedived.

Ankur and Sharon frequently clashed with Scotty and their builder Liam throughout the season, with both parties accusing the other of not pulling their weight.

And in Sunday’s episode, Scotty was shown on camera clocking off for the final time at 4.30pm on a Saturday – 16 hours before deadline, and while all the other contestants had their teams working well into the night to deliver their landscaped yards.

“The big dog’s out of here!” he announced, before telling the cameras that this was definitely “the last time” he’d ever appear on the show.

“It’s quite indicative of the whole thing. It’s our last day on the show, we have so much work to do, and you’ve gone at 4.30pm. It’s the last day of The Block, mate!” Ankur said in a piece to camera.

“He just left us,” said Sharon, claiming he had even complained about having to work on a Saturday.
“It’s like, you don’t want to be here? All right, cool – we’ve got to crack on.”

Bidding Sharon and Ankur a final farewell, their carpenter wished them a half-hearted “good luck with the rest of it” – which Ankur didn’t take too well.

That’s some goodbye after 12 weeks working together.

“Thanks. It’s like, ‘Go to hell!’” he shot back.

“That’s nice, isn’t it,” Sharon said sarcastically. “While we’re still killing ourselves."

Sharon and Ankur ‘made it harder’ on themselves

Elsewhere in the episode, several contestants reflected on Sharon and Ankur’s horror season of The Block – 12 weeks in which they’ve clashed with their builders, foremen Keith and Dan, host Scott Cam and repeatedly declared they wished they’d never signed up for the renovation show.

Just last week, they were on radio fuming about how they’d been portrayed on camera and declaring their relationship with the team behind the show was all-but dead.

Asked if Sharon and Ankur had a harder time than the other teams on The Block, Omar didn’t mince his words.

“I think they made it harder, I don’t think they had a harder time. Everyone had their fair share of ups and downs … it’s just how you recover from each hard moment,” he said.

“If you do it quick, you get over it and enjoy good times. If you dwell on it, you’re going to have an awful time. To be honest, I think they’re the only couple that can’t wait to get out of here.”

In a separate to-camera interview, Rachel confessed that she’d lost patience with Sharon as the season progressed.

“I have had numerous chats with Shaz. They started off very supportive and listening … then it got to a point where I was like, ‘Babe, you’ve got to stop crying. Get angry, fight back in some way,’” she said.

“I think Shaz just fell into this bubble of negativity and she couldn’t get out of it,” said Rachel’s husband Ryan.

Jenny’s horror injury

And in the closing moments of Sunday’s episode, a new disaster struck: Walking around in the dark with only her phone’s torch to light the way, contestant Jenny took a hard fall through a hole in the unfinished deck.

As the episode finished, Jenny could be heard crying out in pain as partner Dylan rushed to help her.

We’ll find out just how serious that injury is in Monday’s episode, as the teams get judged for landscape week ahead of next Sunday’s season finale.
