Sharon and Ankur’s hallway savaged by fellow contestants on The Block

After a brutal judge critique left Block star Sharon in tears on Sunday, fellow contestants had nothing nice to say while viewing the space for themselves.

Embattled Block couple Sharon and Ankur’s quirky hallway has left their fellow contestants cringing — with two teams likening the space to a “brothel”.

It comes after the team came in fourth on Sunday following “Hellway Week” with Shaynna Blaze turning her nose up at their design choices as soon as she entered their expansive house.

“This is horrible. I’m sorry, this makes it feel like a cheap film set and it brings down the other rooms. It feels like you’re going into a theme restaurant,” she declared of the high-drama style Sharon had chosen, as fellow judge Darren Palmer looked on in shock.

Complete with black pressed metal wall panelling, a beaded black chandelier and bookended feline lamps beneath a theatrical mirror, the finished product was certainly daring, but Shaynna was not a fan.

“They’re disgusting,” the interior designer had shot at the lamps as she left the room.

The critique left Sharon in tears, sobbing that she had taken heed of the judges’ advice to inject more “drama” into their build, only for their risks to be rubbished.

But while Shaynna’s judging style has been considered too harsh in the past, Sharon’s fellow contestants seemed to agree with her on viewing the room for themselves.

Stopping in her tracks on entry, outspoken Sarah-Jane began: “Not a fan of …

“Anything,” her husband Tom interjected, later likening the space to a “brothel”, while Sarah-Jane concluded that it was “pretty fugly”.

Meanwhile, Jenny from House 4 laughed as she motioned towards the pressed metal wall feature.

“That’s so bad … Soz Shaz,” she said.

Elsewhere, Rachel weighed-in: “I feel like I’m somewhere in Europe and I’m in a hostel, and I just paid 20 bucks for the night and I’m going here.”

Omar echoed Tom’s reaction, telling producers, “Honestly, it looks like a brothel … that I’ve never been to. Like the ones that you see on movies. Cheap movies,” joking that the vintage door at the end of the hall looked like the entrance to a Chinese restaurant.

“That door to fat noodle needs to change,” he said with a laugh.

Sharon and Ankur have had an uphill battle throughout the competition, tackling the biggest house with the least experience and coming up against several obstacles including builder clashes and struggling with the intense workload of The Block.

Still, former Neighbours star Sharon is determined to follow the competition through despite threatening to leave a number of times.

“I don’t give up so I can’t see myself not finishing,” she told cameras Tuesday night.

“I don’t know if I can be more broken to be honest in this process, so maybe there’ll come a point where I just become numb,” she added.

The Block continues Wednesday night from 7.30pm on Channel 9.
