Beloved former Bachelor star Matty “J” Johnson confirmed on Wednesday morning he will be joining this year’s lineup of the show’s contestants, the rest of whom are yet to be announced.
The 37-year-old reality star took to social media to joke it had been his lifelong dream to “survive” in the jungle by eating nothing but “zebra testicles” and “cold beans”.
“Cat (or lion) is out of the bag!” he wrote on Instagram.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to survive in the African jungle on nothing but zebra testicles and cold beans and this year it’s going to be a reality.
“Wish me luck!”
The exciting announcement was officially made this morning on his wife Laura Byrne’s Life Uncut podcast.
The 38-year-old was joined by her husband and her executive producer Keeshia Pettit to share the news.
“Are you going to say it?” Byrnes teased, smiling from ear to ear.
“I’m going on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!” Matty beamed.
“I’m going into the jungle!”
The couple revealed that when he told their daughter Lola, 3, her initial reaction was that her and mum were going to have a “Girl’s Day!”.
Excited fans congratulated the star, with many pointing out one obvious fact.
“I feel like ‘who did it better - Britt or Matt’ memes are coming soon,’’ one joked, referencing Brittany Hockley’s appearance on I’m A Celebrity in 2024.
Matty J first appeared on The Bachelorette in 2016, before becoming The Bachelor in 2017.
He also competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2021, hosted the travel show Luxury Escapes, and more recently has been co-hosting the Two Doting Dads podcast with Ash Wicks.
He tied the knot with Bachelor star Laura Byrne in 2022, with the pair having two daughters, Marlie-Mae and Lola.
I’m A Celebrity! will once again be hosted by Julia Morris and Robert Irwin, returning to its January timeslot after two years.
Former Big Brother star Skye Wheatley was crowned queen of the jungle in 2024 after an “incredibly close” vote.
