A retail brand couldn’t hope for a better muse than Kendall Jenner. That is, if the supermodel is actually wearing the company’s products in the promotional photo shoot.
The US reality star has posed for Italian fashion designer Calzedonia for its latest swimwear line in a flurry of stunning photos – two of which are topless – which Jenner uploaded to her Instagram account.
But the racy campaign appears to have backfired among some of the reality star’s followers, who pointed out a glaring detail in the comment section of the post.
“Why do you have to remove your bikini top if you’re promoting f***ing bikinis,” the top comment read.
“I literally thought ‘She’s not even wearing it!’,” another wrote.
“Lol you’re promoting a product not yourself,” a third chimed in.
Others defended the decision for Jenner to go topless in some of the snaps, with one saying, “She needs to get views and that’s the Kardashians biggest skill set.”
“With a body like that I would never wear clothes,” another wrote.
“Campaign of the year,” a third added.
Nevertheless, with a whopping 293 million followers, Jenner no doubt made a fortune for posing in the shoot and promoting it on her own Instagram account.
Her mother and manager, Kris Jenner, previously revealed her daughters – including Kim Kardashian – charge a significant fee to plug brands online.
“My daughters are constantly getting offers to post something for a company, or a brand, on social media,” Jenner told CBS in 2019.
“So they’re – they have a fee for a post, or a fee for a story, a fee for Facebook, a fee for — you know — they have a fee schedule.
“I mean, it’s definitely six figures. And sometimes, if it’s Kim, or if it’s Kylie, it depends on what it really is.”
Social media and brand experts have estimated Kim, who has 362 million followers, can charge upwards of $US2 million for a single post.
Elsewhere, 28-year-old Jenner hasn’t always got it right when inking promotional deals with brands.
Back in 2017, the model appeared in a “tone deaf” Pepsi commercial which copped widespread backlash.
In the ad, which was swiftly pulled, Jenner portrayed a demonstrator who delivers a can of Pepsi to a police officer during a protest, seemingly fixing the unrest between cops and protesters.
The company was accused of appropriating civil rights movements in a bid to sell soda.
Jenner, for her part, was reportedly paid upwards of seven-figures for her appearance in the doomed commercial, which she later expressed regret over.
“I would never purposely hurt someone, ever,” Jenner said during an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
“You don’t know when you’re in the moment, and, like, it was the most … I just felt so f***ing stupid. The fact that I would offend other people or hurt other people was definitely not the intent.”
