Sharon and Ankur’s property agent weighs in on Block dramas

The Block’s Shelley Craft spoke to each team’s property agent for the show’s official podcast – and some appeared more enthusiastic than others.

Fed-up Scott Cam wants to change The Block’s rules next season

The Block presenter Shelley Craft spoke to each team’s property agents for the latest episode of the show’s official podcast – and some appeared more enthusiastic than others.

The podcast’s release came after Block contestants Sharon and Ankur had a dismal final result from the judges for landscaping week, coming a distant last with just 19.5 points out of 30 during Monday’s episode as the judges declared their efforts “terrible”.

The podcast essentially served as a half-hour ad for each prospective agent to explain why their house was the best on The Block – and most were in full sales mode, with Dylan and Jenny’s agent declaring that they were representing “the best house and the best contestants” of the season, while Oz and Omar’s agent insisted they were confident the boys would win the show.

By far the briefest appearance came from Sharon and Ankur’s agent, Sean Parker of Macedon Ranges Sotheby’s, who spoke for just two minutes.

“It’s a house you need to see,” Mr Parker said, insisting that the many dramas the couple encountered during their season are not apparent when inspecting the finished property.

“If you watched the show, you probably wouldn’t want to come to house three, but people who do make it up are quite impressed. I’ve had comments [from people] saying it’s the winning house,” he said.

Asked to name the unique selling point for Sharon and Ankur’s home, Mr Parker pointed to its functionality.

“People want function – people want to be able to ‘zone’. I think those old houses need to be brought kicking and screaming into the current era, which this has.

“I think they’ve done an OK job there,” he said.

He told Craft that there had been interest from a mix of local and interstate buyers, but that he “can’t really categorise who or what the buyer is – I think that’ll play out in the next week”.

Mr Parker’s comments come after The Block’s judges last night savaged Sharon and Ankur’s efforts for landscaping week, with Neale Whitaker even declaring that the house would have to be marketed as a “renovator’s delight” – not the feedback you’d want to hear about a property you’ve just spent 12 weeks renovating.

“It’s hard to believe that this house could go to auction in this state,” Whitaker said.

The bad news continued for the pair on Monday’s episode when host Scott Cam called them out for being the only team to leave their shed unfinished.

“That’s on me [to finish] now, and that’s despite me giving you the budget to do it,” Cam told them.

“We’ve got to think about fairness in this competition, so I think we’ve got to revisit this – because it’s going to cost a bomb to do all that work. We’re going to have to revisit this when it comes to finalising the reserve price, OK?”

Sharon said she didn’t think it was fair the unfinished shed would affect their reserve price, given their builders said supply issues were to blame.

But in a post to their Instagram account this week, the couple appeared to blame their builders, saying they’d since learned supply issues weren’t behind the shed not being finished in time.
