Three nights of short films will showcase the best talents in the industry and give viewers some teary moments, gasps and belly laughs.

Flickerfest is back for another year bringing hand picked A-list short film programs from more than 3,500 entries.

The fest will be the first ticketed event since COVID-19 for Salamanca Arts Centre’s performance hub Peacock Theatre.

Wide Angle Tasmania executive director Abi Binning said she couldn’t wait to see the “extraordinary” films.

“Tasmanian film makers have quite regularly been selected for Flickerfest over the years which is a real coup,” she said.

Filmed in Hobart and along the Tasman Peninsula using local cast and crew, The Diver took out the Academy Qualifying Flickerfest Award for Best Australian Short film and will make its Tasmanian Premiere at Peacock Theatre.

Salamanca Arts Centre marketing and communications manager Tash Newman said SAC were thrilled to fill up their empty arts spaces with new programs.

“The foot traffic’s nowhere near what it was but we’re learning how to work with a smaller audience,” she said.

This year’s festival will put on an extra night to compensate for socially distanced attendance rates allowing only 37 people in the 140-seated theatre.

The first night will showcase seven short international films, followed by nine Australian shorts on the second evening and ten Flickerkids short films for children on closing night.

Tickets for the first two nights starting 6pm range from $14-16 with all 4pm Flickerkids tickets $10.

Flickerfest runs from September 10-12.
