As the fallout from Michael Clarke and Jade Yarbrough’s Noosa park scrap continues, one of Karl Stefanovic’s colleagues has expressed sympathy for the star’s unfortunate involvement.
Stefanovic’s presence in the footage is the latest in the Nine star’s growing list of headline-grabbing scandals, with 3AW mornings host Neil Mitchell suggesting the Today host is a “trouble magnet,” The Australian reports.
Addressing listeners of his radio show last week, Mitchell said: “He’s a trouble magnet, Karl. This wasn’t his fault, he was a witness to all this but he’s a trouble magnet, it just follows him around.
“Poor old Karl … it’s ugly stuff.”
He went on to slam Clarke, accusing the former cricketer of “carrying on like a bozo bogan” in the wild footage taken in Lion’s Park in Noosa earlier this month.
The explosive clip, which was first published on Wednesday night by The Daily Telegraph, sees a shirtless Clarke being slapped across the face by his girlfriend, Stefanovic’s sister-in-law, Jade Yarbrough, and limping through the park urging her to hit him again. Karl and Jasmine Stefanovic are seen trying to diffuse the situation.
“I’m f***ing wrong? You’re a f***ing liar,” Yarbrough screams, airing suspicions he had cheated on her with ex-girlfriend Pip Edwards.
“Baby you’re wrong, you’re wrong,” Clarke replies, saying he had been with celebrity accountant and friend Anthony Bell that evening.
“Baby, baby, Belly was at the house. I swear on my life, I swear at my life … That’s not true, it’s not true.
“On my daughter’s life.”
Turning his attention to Karl, Clarke then barks: “Karlos, I can tell you now c**t, don’t you f***ing walk away.
“She can, she can punch me, but you, you c**t.”
Karl has not addressed the incident publicly.
It comes as the Channel 9 star is also navigating allegations he touched a waiter at a Mercedes-Benz charity event last year. Stefanovic is yet to comment on the claims since they made headlines in September.
According to The Australian, Queensland Police are still investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, Clarke has faced questions about his now-infamous viral park video on his Sky Sports Radio show this morning alongside co-hosts Gerard Middleton and Laurie Daley.
While the hosts declared the show wouldn’t be delving into the issue, Middleton couldn’t resist asking Clarke about his “incredible” hamstring bruise.
“Now of course enormous fascination into Clarkey’s life and we are just hitting this on the head straight away,” Middleton said.
“It is a private matter that Clarkey’s obviously been dealing with, a very, very private matter which unfortunately was made public.
“There’s a lot of factors in play here and Clarkey’s made his statement last week and due to all the factors in play we are moving forward on The Big Sports Breakfast this morning.”
He added: “I want to ask you, you showed us before that bruise on your hamstring, that is incredible mate.
“You won’t be able to walk properly for weeks.”
The 41-yeaqr-old replied, “Nah it’s fine buddy, it’s on the mend, I’m good to go, I’m ready, game day, good to go, on the mend.”
