Pop star Halsey slams her own fans in deleted post: ‘Meaner to me than any other people’

Singer Halsey has claimed her own fans are “meaner to me than any other people on the planet,” in a hastily-deleted social media post.

Halsey received Britney Spears's 'blessing' to sample Lucky

Pop star Halsey has claimed she “regrets” making a comeback following her heartbreaking battle with a rare disease.

Halsey, real name Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, was diagnosed with lupus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022 that forced her out of the spotlight while she attempted to recover.

The US singer, 29, returned last week with her comeback single Lucky, which samples Britney Spears’ 2000 track of the same name.

However, she’s faced severe backlash over the sample, as well as the song’s accompanying music video, including from Spears herself.

Now, Halsey has declared she wishes she had never returned to the spotlight.

“When I got sick, all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again,” she wrote in a now-deleted post. “But I don’t even know what this is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole and I regret coming back.”

The singer also stated that she is unhappy with fans who have “stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am.”

“My own fans are hands down meaner to me than any other people on the planet,” she continued.

“Not speaking for all of you, of course. But it used to be just a minority that were awful to me and now it seems like a majority have only stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am. it’s hard to want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, sympathy, patience; or to be honest human decency.

“Especially after years of hiding from the interactions for fear that this EXACT thing would happen. I don’t know man. I almost lost my life. I am not gonna do anything that doesn’t make me happy anymore. I can’t spiritually afford it.”

Shortly after the video’s release, Spears took to X (formerly Twitter) to claim that the portrayal offended her and made her look like a “superficial pop star.”

Spears swiftly deleted the post and instead tweeted, “Fake news !!! That was not me on my phone !!! I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it !!!”

Halsey responded by retweeting Spears, writing, “and I love Britney!!!! I always have and always will love you were the first person who ever made me realise what it means to feel inspired.

“And you continue to inspire me everyday.”
