Margot Robbie has touched down on Australian soil.
The Queensland-born actress made an unexpected arrival in Brisbane from LA early on Friday morning, before heading straight to northern NSW hotspot Byron Bay alongside British husband Tom Ackerley.
The duo were spotted enjoying a fun-filled day in the beachside town, where they wed in 2016, enjoying lunch at Raes on Wategos before hitting the Lord Byron Distillery with friends.
Their visit to the distillery in Byron’s industrial area was a business meeting, and came just one day after it was announced Robbie had co-founded a new line of gin, Papa Salt, which is made at the venue.
The alcohol brand has been the “passion project” of Robbie, Ackerley and their friends Josey McNamara, Regan Riskas and Charlie Maas, and finally launched on Friday after five years of planning.
Afterwards, Robbie, 32, and Ackerley, 33, were driven to a home on sale in the Byron hinterland suburb of Newrybar, where Liam Hemsworth also owns property. His fellow famous brothers Chris and Luke Hemsworth also occupy homes in the celebrity-favourite area.
The sprawling property, known as ‘Cedar Hill’, is described on its real estate listing as “Australia’s Most Beautiful Home”, sitting on a five-acre block boasting ocean and hinterland views.
With eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms, the barn-style home also has a large infinity pool with an open plan kitchen, living and dining area.
Robbie’s visit to her home country comes just days after she attended the Chanel Cruise show in Los Angeles on Tuesday, and her appearance on the red carpet at New York’s Met Gala last week.
The Oscar-nominated star is next set to hit the big screen in Greta Gerwig’s hotly-anticipated Barbie movie, in which Robbie plays the iconic Mattel doll alongside Ryan Gosling as Ken.
It hits cinemas on July 21, with the stars expected to promote the film in Australia, as Robbie often brings her big-budget films down under, as she did with Babylon in January.
Robbie has been based in the US since her breakout role in 2013’s Wolf of Wall Street.
As her career exploded, she invested wisely in property, and has owned three properties in LA, including a home in Hancock Park which she bought for $2.725 million in 2017, as well as another in Venice Beach, which she splashed around $7.2 million for in 2019. She also listed her bungalow in Hollywood Hills in late 2020, which she bought three years prior for $950,000.
Closer to home, Robbie famously paid off her mother Sarie Kessler’s mortgage for their family home on the Gold Coast in 2014, which was later sold.
In 2019, it was reported Robbie spent $2.5 million on adjoining homes on the Gold Coast for her mum and older sister, Anya Robbie.
