Margot Robbie arrives at the Met Gala in Cindy Crawford recreation

Margot Robbie has traded in her bright and bubbly pink Barbie wardrobe for a vampy black Chanel gown at the 2023 Met Gala.
The Australian actress wore a recreation of a 1993 gown that was originally designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel and worn by supermodel Cindy Crawford.
The one-shoulder gown featured a cape trailing to the gown and PVC panelling, bordered by gold chains on the bodice to show a flash of the Babylon star’s torso.
The gown was a remake of the haute couture gown Cindy Crawford wore in the spring/summer 1993 fashion show at Paris Fashion Week.

It is a detour from the recent fashion Robbie has been wearing to promote her upcoming Barbie live-action film, and some were stunned the star did not give a nod to the doll she brought to life.

Robbie paid homage to Lagerfeld, who selected her as a Chanel ambassador in 2018. The actress said it was an “honour” to be one of the last ambassadors the iconic designer chose to represent the fashion house before his death.
Speaking to Vogue at the top of the Met steps, Robbie said the Gala’s theme – ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ – was an incredible tribute to the designer.
“Obviously the Met [Gala] is always an exciting night, but I had the great privilege of getting to know Karl, to an extent [as an ambassador],” she said.
“I just am thrilled they are honouring him tonight because he was exceptional.”
