FRIDAY
FESTIVAL OF VOICES
Various Locations, June 28-July 14
Singers from around the world will gather in Tasmania to perform, teach, learn and connect, as part of this annual music festival, which celebrates the warmth of singing in the depths of winter. The festival kicks off on Friday with Bustamento and Boil Up, a family-friendly celebration of song at the Tasmanian Bushland Garden at Buckland from 6pm, and runs until July 14 with a Finale Concert at Federation Concert Hall at 1.30pm. festivalofvoices.com
HOBART TWILIGHT MARKET
Brooke Street Pier, 4.30pm-9pm
Tasmania is renowned for its quality produce and that’s what you’ll find at this market — a diverse range of food and locally-crafted small batch drinks alongside a variety of design stalls and live local music. TSO ROCOCO VARIATIONS
Federation Concert Hall, 7.30pm
Call it creative recycling, but composers have always engaged with music from earlier times. This concert offers affectionate tributes from one composer to another and from one era to another. In his Variations on a Rococo Theme, Tchaikovsky summons the world of Mozart, a composer whose music he loved. Meanwhile, Ravel’s jewel-like Le Tombeau de Couperin honours the music of the French Baroque. Brahms was also in awe of his artistic heritage and revered the music of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Featuring conductor Jaime Martín and cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan. Tickets from $35. tso.com.au
MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL ROADSHOW
Theatre Royal, 7.30pm
Looking for a laugh? The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow brings comedians Ben Knight, Aaron Chen, Blake Freeman, Georgie Carroll and Lloyd Langford to the stage, celebrating the touring arm of one of the world’s largest comedy festivals. Tickets from $55. theatreroyal.com.au
