A  VERSATILE range of speakers, including a Nobel Prize-winning astronomer who also happens to be a winemaker, will give specialised presentations at the Taste of Tasmania.

Tasting Table host Phil Laing said the sessions would use the best wine and food in Tasmania.

“We have 24 sessions with a combination of popular workshops and new sessions and presenters,” Mr Laing said.

Nobel Prize-winner Brian Schmidt – who owns Maipenrai, a vineyard and winery dedicated to making fine pinot noir in the Canberra district – will give a presentation on day two.

“He makes a good pinot noir typical of Canberra style and people can hear more about that by attending the session,” Mr Laing said.

Sommeliers Australia’s Louise Radman, of Domaine Simha winery, said she and leading sommeliers would present an experience featuring their favourite wines and stories of local heroes.

“Tasmania is home to the finest cold climate wine-growing terroir in the country,” Ms Radman said.

“Domaine Simha’s vigneron, Nav Singh, takes an agent grade approach, shaping living wines relying on ancient methods and intuition.”

Frogmore Creek senior winemaker Alain Rousseau will take attendees on a retrospective journey of successful Tasmanian pinot noir vintages.

Mr Laing said winemaker Cynthea Semmens presented Tasmanian shiraz, including the Marion’s Shiraz 2013.

“It’s a very smart wine,” he said.

Craft brewer Paul Morrison, from Launceston, presents with beer stalwart Willie Simpson, of Seven Sheds, based in the North-West.

Taste of Tasmania starts 11am at Princes Wharf No.1 Shed (PW1) December 28 to January 3, free entry but book your session of the Tasting Table online.
