ORGANISERS of Hobart’s Oktoberfest celebration of Bavarian culture are the first to admit last year’s inaugural event didn’t go exactly to plan.
More than 14,000 beer lovers attended over the two days – an influx the staff, and the furniture, simply weren’t prepared for.
Now organisers are urging Tasmanians to give them another chance and pull up a seat at the second annual Oktoberfest, to be held at Princes Wharf 1 on October 24.
“Last year was a great success, but we did have some issues. We were a little bit overwhelmed,” Oktoberfest director Stuart Harris said.
“A lot of people had a great time, but some people didn’t. We’ve taken that feedback on board and resolved all the issues that we had.
“We have scaled back the size and length of the event so we can focus on providing the best experience possible.
“We wanted to take a little step back, so we can take some big steps forward over the coming years.”
One of last year’s major problems was the wooden benches used for seating, with about one third of them snapping under the pressure.
“Unfortunately, the benches just weren’t up to the standard we needed, so we’ve got some really good quality ones this year and I can assure you they won’t break,” Mr Harris said.
