HOBART’S Oktoberfest event has been cancelled, with low ticket sales and “the personal health impact that the changes and uncertainty have had on organisers” blamed for the decision.

The event was originally scheduled to be held at Princes Wharf 1 last month, but a dispute with the Hobart City Council over seating led to it being rescheduled and moved to the Elwick racecourse.

But organisers released a statement yeserday announcing the event’s cancellation.

“Despite the serious challenges we faced we persevered to keep the event alive and bring Oktoberfest back to Hobart, the odds have continued to be stacked against us and we have finally decided to call it,” the statement said.

“With a week to go we cannot see the event — which was going to break even at best — selling out, so unfortunately a cancellation is the only option.”

Ticket holders will be contacted regarding refunds.
