A SECRET garden that has never before allowed public viewings will throw open its doors for a special fundraising event.
Wasatch Garden at Mount Stuart is a private property of land owned by residents Bridget and Mark Newman which boasts original and beautiful trees including the Dutch Elm, Bhutan Cypress and stately conifers.
Other Spring flowering trees and shrubs on display at the garden include rhododendrons, camellias and magnolia.
The garden, covering almost one acre in size, started in the 1920s when the house on the site was built.
The hidden natural beauty will open to the public for one day of viewing on Sunday as part of the nationwide My Open Garden event.
Funds raised on the day will go to support the Claremont Golf Club following a period of pandemic-related downturn.
Ms Newman said the couple was expecting more than 100 visitors to attend garden open day.
“Our garden has been a labour of love of the past 24 years for us,” she said.
“Not many would know there is a large garden here so we thought people would be interested in seeing this rare parcel of land virtually in the centre of Hobart.”
The property on which the garden sits has had three owners since it was first occupied.
The house, Wasatch, was completed in 1925 for the first General Manager of the Hobart Electrolytic Zinc Works, Conrad Snow.
Entry to the 25 Toorak Ave property is $10 per adult and free for children under 16.
Complimentary tea and coffee will be available while a plant stall, BBQ and raffle will also be on offer.
