THE first Party in the Apocalypse festival has kicked off without a hitch, as music lovers balanced festival flair with Covid restrictions.
Vibestown Productions festival director Jesse Higgs said day one of the event went according to plan.
“It’s been a really lovely day, the weather’s been gorgeous, everyone’s doing a really good job with wearing masks, and we’ve had a smooth event so far,” Mr Higgs said.
The event features several Tasmanian acts including Sumner, Chase City and The Sleepyheads, along with big names from the mainland like PNAU, Methyl Ethyl and Lime Cordiale.
“I think everybody’s really relishing the opportunity to be back on the big stage,” Mr Higgs said.
“Sumner’s set was a highlight, Luca Brasi is a great home town favourite and Dune Rats are tearing up the stage right now.”
While dancing is back on the cards, there are some restrictions still in place to be able to attend the event.
“Basically, you’ve got to have your double vaccine to enter the event and everyone’s got to wear their masks – that’s the direction from the Health Department,” Mr Higgs said.
Mr Higgs said many had missed the music festival scene during the pandemic.
“You can really tell punters are over the moon,” he said.
“You can clearly see some of the kids here haven’t even potentially been to a festival before.
“It’s great to see so many you exuberant faces.
“People are happy to be back in a crowd it really feels like summer festival vibes.”
The festival continues on Tuesday, with Lime Cordiale headlining day two.
For many artists featured, it is the first time they have played a live show in months.
“It’ll be the first show we’ve been able to play in 11 months so I think it’s
gonna be a really special one,” Cub Sport lead singer Tim Nelson said.
“We’ll be playing all the faves and maybe debuting something brand new.”
