Chezzi Denyer cries on Studio while opening up about husband Grant on I’m a Celeb

Chezzi Denyer has admitted she was “nervous” about Grant appearing on I’m a Celeb, revealing they have spoken about his drinking “a number of times” as a couple.

Chezzi Denyer has praised her husband for his candour on I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! in a teary interview on Studio 10 this morning.

Dabbing her eyes with a tissue as she watched footage of Grant’s emotional moments on the Channel 10 show, the heavily pregnant podcast host revealed how “nervous” she was about Grant’s appearance given how “emotional” and “sensitive” he can be.

She also opened up about her husband’s drinking, which Grant touched on around the campsite, adding that she saw a turning point when he opened up to his co-stars.

“I really liked it,” Chezzi said of Grant’s alcohol admission.

“It is something that we have spoken about a number of times, but I really felt the penny dropped when he was talking to Mel (Buttle) during that conversation.”

Chezzi, who is expecting her third child with Grant, went on to say she was initially nervous about her husband would say while in the jungle, but applauded the show for providing a platform for such open conversations.

“I keep telling everyone he is the worst candidate to go into the jungle. One of the reasons is because he is very sensitive. He is very emotional,” she said.

“You know, he is also very shy. He is a germaphobe. He can’t eat most things, he can’t even change nappies.”

Her comments come a week after Grant told his fellow campmates he was anxious in the lead-up to the show, which he dealt with by drinking to excess.

“I think I’ve only just realised from coming in here that I drink to lessen anxiety, which I didn’t really realise I had until I saw the pattern of fear coming into here and the anticipation of a new gig and will I fit in? Is it gonna be fun?” he said.

“Am I gonna be able to be successful in the challenges? Can I be funny for that long? All of these things, and I just started going like this (mimics drinking).”

He also admitted to appearing on Sunrise drunk while presenting the weather in the past.

Denyer was the weather presenter on the Channel 7 breakfast show between 2004-2006 and 2010-2013.

“When I was doing Sunrise weather for years, the amount of times I was probably still drunk on air in the morning was too many,” he said.

The TV veteran hinted he would be giving up alcohol in the not too distant future, saying: “I think I need it gone from my life to be able to navigate life better than I have been.”

He has since told The Daily Telegraph of his plans to cut out alcohol for good.

“I want to push the button on cancelling it (alcohol) altogether and see how I go,” the 43-year-old revealed last week.

Chezzi and Grant have been married for 10 years.

Speaking on their podcast It’s All True? in September, the couple revealed the controversial way they struck up a romance given they were forced to date in secret while Grant was in a relationship and Chezzi was still married.

The two met while working together on Sunrise in 2005, and were caught by surprise by their attraction after clashing on several occasions at work.
