Grant and Chezzi Denyer reveal scandalous details of their early relationship

Grant and Chezzi Denyer have revealed the scandalous tale of their beginnings – sharing that they dated in secret while Chezzi was still married.

Grant and Chezzi Denyer are the golden couple of Australian media, but their beginnings were far from perfect.

The couple, who have been married for 10 years, disclosed the controversial way they struck up a romance on their new podcast It’s All True?

In the first episode of the new show, launched today, theyrevealed they were forced to date in secret given Grant, 43, was in a relationship and Chezzi, 40, was married.

The two met while working together on Sunrise in 2005,and were caught by surprise by their attraction after clashing on several occasions at work.

In fact, according to Grant, 43, they “hated each other” until one pivotal moment.

“There was a moment, there was a spark, there was an explosion inside of me and I was like ‘whoa!’ and the game changed, and my world stopped and love just flooded in,” he said, describing how he brushed hands with his now-wife and their energy towards each other shifted.

“I was like, I felt this tingle from head to toe come over me. I realised I cannot live without this woman and I need her in my life forever.”

Their new-found attraction to each other was “problematic”, Grant said, with Chezzi being married and Grant in another relationship.

“Are you ready to declare this?” Grant asked his wife before dropping the bombshell.

“This is full on,” Chezzi responded, before Grant revealed: “You were married, I was in another relationship... That took a long time to navigate.”

“It was a rough journey at the start. It wasn’t like what you see in the movies,” Chezzi agreed.

Going on to explain that they had to “hide” their love, Grant revealed when whispers around the office began to circulate, it led to speculation in the media.

“It felt naughty, it felt wrong, but so right at the same time,” he said.

“Things started happening where our colleagues had sort of cottoned on to it and rumours started to spread … I had to sneak in and out to try and see you … I just felt like a naughty boy who was in trouble all the time,” Grant said.

Chezzi went on to reveal she would “wear wigs” to try to conceal her identity from lurking paparazzi.

“I got away with it for a while,” she said, going on to recall she was then accused of leaking stories to the media to the point where her job was threatened.

“It was messy, it was awful,” Chezzi said, adding that it was the reason she left TV and moved back to Bathurst.

Neither shared what happened with their partners at the time, but Grant revealed it was Chezzi’s move to Bathurst that kicked him into gear.

“That’s when I knew I really loved you,” he said.

Once together, Chezzi said they kept their relationship under wraps even after living together for three months, until Denyer sustained a back injury at a monster truck rally in 2008 and Chezzi rushed to his side.

Their relationship was further tested when Chezzi became Grant’s full-time carer, with the TV star battling terrifying side effects from his pain medication.

Fast-forward a decade – their muddy past behind them – and the couple are now expecting their third child together.

Sharing the news on Instagram last month, the pair posted an adorable video starring their two daughters Sailor, 8, and Scout, 4.

“We have some exciting news … coming March 1, 2021,” Grant and Chezzi both captioned the video, which shows their two girls sitting at a table with a toy doll.

“So, we have some news. Our mum is pregnant! And mum’s really sick. And she’s been resting for days,” the girls – wearing matching bows – explain in the footage.

The couple, who first met in 2005, live on a property outside of Bathurst with their two daughters.

Last year, they celebrated a second wedding, renewing their vows with their children by their side.
