“I haven’t ever said this”: The superstar has opened up about her quiet heartbreak, making an upsetting revelation in a new interview.

Selena Gomez is now a billionaire! What's next?

Selena Gomez has revealed her secret heartbreak for the first time in a new interview.

The US actress, 32, appears on the cover of Vanity Fair for the magazine’s October issue, where she opened up about the long-term complication from her 2013 diagnosis with auto-immune disease, lupus.

“I haven’t ever said this … but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children,” Gomez candidly told the outlet.

“I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

Gomez subsequently had chemotherapy to treat the condition, before having a kidney transplant in 2017.

The Only Murders in the Building star has been in a relationship with music producer Benny Blanco since June last year.

She told the magazine the couple plans to have children in the near future.

“I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different,” Gomez said.

“I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me.

“At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

Elsewhere, Gomez was officially declared a billionaire at the weekend, according to Bloomberg’s latest index.

The pop star has quietly amassed an exorbitant fortune in recent years, after first shooting to stardom as a teen with her Disney Channel show Wizards of Waverly Place in 2007.

While Gomez carved out a flourishing TV and music career in the years afterwards, while also becoming one of Hollywood’s most popular celebrities, the outlet reports 81 per cent of her wealth stems from her cosmetics company Rare Beauty, which launched in 2020.

According to Bloomberg’s recent estimations, which were published September, Gomez’s net worth is $US1.3 billion.

Similar to pop star Rihanna, who became a billionaire in 2021 largely thanks to her cosmetics company Fenty Beauty, Gomez’s showbiz exploits accounted to only a fraction of her wealth, with music tours contributing to less than 5 per cent of her fortune, while album and record sales made up less than 2 per cent.

Rare Beauty, which sells makeup products from liquid blush to lipsticks, reportedly did net sales of $US400 million in the 12 months to February 2024.

While it’s unknown what stake Gomez has in the business, which she founded, Bloomberg speculates it’s around 51 per cent, with the company estimated to be worth more than $US2 billion.
