A British TV personality is facing heavy backlash after questioning why the Princess of Wales had “aged so much” and suggesting she had taken up “smoking” after she made a rare public appearance following her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

Kate joined the royal family for the annual Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph in London on Sunday, two months after announcing that she had completed chemotherapy.

Shortly afterwards, former UK Big Brother star and Good Morning Britain panellist Narinder Kaur, 51, re-shared an article on X which praised “Brave Kate” in its headline – but added her own less-than-complimentary remarks.

“Genuine question – why has Kate aged so much? Isn’t she only 42? Is she a smoker? It’s the only explanation,” Kaur wrote.

Hundreds of horrified users quickly rushed to Kate’s defence, and labelled the TV personality as “nasty” and “disgusting” for remarking on how she looked during her cancer battle.

Amid the intense backlash, Kaur quickly posted a follow-up message, apologising for being “insensitive”.

“OK. Seems people took this the wrong way. It was a genuine ask. My brother had chemo. He didn’t age. He died. Apologies if it was insensitive or just plain wrong. Hands up. I’m sorry,” she shared, adding that she had deleted the initial tweet.

But her apology didn’t go far in appeasing her outraged followers.

“You hit a new low Narinder – take yourself off here for a while and think about things before tweeting – life’s tough and we don’t all agree on everything but this was terrible,” one person wrote.

Another pointed out: “We didn’t take it the wrong way. You were nasty. And you should apologise.”

Kaur later shared a video on social media, slamming the trolls who had sent her “sexual, racist and violent abuse” in the wake of her Kate post.

“I thought I’d do a quick video instead of tweet after tweet, because it becomes pretty ridiculous – as if it wasn’t ridiculous enough already. I put out a stupid tweet. That wasn’t my intention, my intention was not to be malicious or nasty or anything,” she said.

“I’m not like that, anybody who knows me. It was stupid to ask about the ageing. I’ve admitted that, I’ve put my hands up and apologised if it caused offence.”

In the same video, Kaur went on to accuse Kate of having “a lot of privilege” for being able to take time off work while undergoing cancer treatment.

“She’s had near enough a year off work,” she said.

“ … My own brother worked up until weeks before he died [of cancer]. So Kate does have a lot of privilege there.”

However, Kaur insisted, she was not “excusing” her original offensive tweet.

The controversial post comes after the Princess of Wales joined her husband, Prince William, the King and other senior royals at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Saturday night.

Queen Camilla was forced to skip the occasion on doctors’ orders after being diagnosed with a chest infection.

The following day, the royal family – including Kate – gathered at the Cenotaph to lead Britain’s remembrance of its soldiers.

Kate, dressed in a structured military-style black coat and three-flowered fascinator, cut a solemn figure as she stood next to the Duchess of Edinburgh on the balcony as King Charles, William and the British prime minister led the wreath-laying.
