British comedian Jack Whitehall has recalled the horrifying moment his model girlfriend collapsed at the Brit Awards before discovering she had Type 1 diabetes.

Roxy Horner, 31, was taken to hospital following the incident at London’s O2 arena in 2021, where Whitehall had been hosting the ceremony.

“We found out she had diabetes the night I was hosting the Brits. She had something called a diabetic hypo and she fainted,” he said onstage at a comedy gig in Essex, The Sun reports.

“Paramedics were trying to resuscitate her and her sugar levels were spiking dangerously. We ended up in A&E [accident and emergency] on the night of the Brits, which definitely made for a slightly different vibe of an afterparty.

“The year before, I was hobnobbing with [rapper] Stormzy and Sir Elton John, and this time I was sitting in the emergency room of an A&E unit sat next to a Scottish gentleman who smelled of Special Brew.”

Whitehall made light of the incident and admitted he had joked with Horner that her reaction had been caused by seeing superstar Harry Styles at the star-studded bash.

“The Brits is obviously the worst place to have a medical emergency as the only doctor in the house was Dr Dre,” Whitehall joked.

“To be fair, I was experiencing quite a lot of the symptoms of a diabetic hypo while I was watching Harry as well.”

Prior to her diagnosis in May 2021, Horner said she had felt “tired and exhausted all the time”.

“I had no energy. I couldn’t even go for a walk. It was draining,” she said. “I felt like I was dying. I was drinking four to eight litres of water a day.”

She has since gone on to raise awareness of diabetes. And she praised Whitehall and thanked him for supporting her.

Horner, who has been with Whitehall for three years, said: “Jack’s been my absolute rock, he’s so lovely.

“He was there when I got diagnosed. My parents and my family live in Australia, so he has been my family. We’re amazing.”

During his gig in Essex ahead of his UK and European tour, Whitehall said: “She has been very good with her diabetes.

“She talks about it and tries to educate people about it. She does these little tutorials on her social media.

“The only time she f***ed it up was when she was doing this thing about insulin injections which ended with her using the phrase, ‘At the end of the day it is just a tiny prick, then you feel it go in.’

“I know those are the exact words she used because that 10-second clip ended up in every one of my group chats including the family WhatsApp group.”
