Cauldron: Colin Wicking’s new book is ‘weirder’ than Hitler’s micro revelation

HITLER had small, deformed penis — and the Northern Territory has Nazi zombies. The first is an actual claim and the second is a new book written by NT News cartoonist Colin Wicking. Yes ... both are weird.

HITLER had small, deformed appendage — and the Northern Territory has Nazi zombies.

The first is an actual claim in a new book called Hitler’s Last Day: Minute by Minute by historians Jonathan Mayo and Emma Craigie.

The second revelation is a work of fiction (... or is it?) written by Northern Territory News cartoonist Colin Wicking but it’s no less a WHAT THA!?!

Cauldron begins with the threat of Nazi zombies being let loose from a Cold War bunker in the Territory “and only gets weirder from there,” Wicking said.

“I was playing around with ideas and just thought, ‘What’s the worst thing that could happen in outback Australia?’” he added.

Naturally, Nazi zombies was the answer.

Following two previous attempts to write novels, Mr Wicking said his motivation for writing Cauldron was simple.

“I just wanted to write something fun,” he said.

“Zombie bunkers were just the kind of thing that was built by our government in the 1960s.”

The novel took Wicking 18 months to write — in between scribbling cartoons for the NT News and the Centralian Advocate.

It was released as an ebook yesterday on Amazon.com to popular acclaim.

It has also been released on iOS iBooks.

The book follows protagonist Ross Vittachi on his hunt for a golden cauldron that once belonged to SS leader Heinrich Himmler.

Along the way, Vittachi and newspaper journalist Larry Kirby disturb the hoard of zombies.

“As for the rest of it, you’ll have to get the book and have a read,” Mr Wicking said.

The e-book sells for US$2.99, and attracted two 5-star reviews from readers within a day of it going online.

Readers praised the book for it’s “classic Wicking Wit”.

Mr Wicking said he hoped his book would prove “less repetitive” than best-selling Australian thriller writer Matthew Reilly, whose books also frequently feature Nazis or Zombies, but not Nazi Zombies.

By self publishing the book, Mr Wicking said he hoped to enjoy a closer relationship with his fans, and be free from the shackles that a publisher might place on his creativity.
