Rebel Wilson ‘pumped’ to host the 2024 AACTA awards

Homegrown Hollywood star Rebel Wilson will host the 2024 AACTA awards next month.

The Pitch Perfect star who has been based back in Sydney with her family – fiancee Ramona Agruma and 13-month-old daughter Royce – since the new year, said she was pumped to be hosting the ceremony.

“Having spent the last months back in Oz making my debut feature (film The Deb), I’ve been reminded time and time again of the Australian film and television industry’s depth of talent, smarts, energy and just all-round awesomeness,” she said.

“It’s amazing to be back working here and an honour to celebrate the Aussies who have achieved great things with their projects over the past year.

“It’s so very exciting to pop up to the Gold Coast. Should be an incredible night.”

Wilson joins a long list of the local industry’s big names who will attend the ceremony honouring Australia’s film and television industry on the Gold Coast – the new home of the AACTAs, under a three-year deal with the Queensland government.

Oscar winner, and nine-time AACTA winner Cate Blanchett, who has been nominated for Best Lead Actress for her role as a renegade nun in The New Boy, will also attend. Warwick Thornton’s film based on his experiences at a remote missionary-style school run by Benedictine monks has notched up 12 nominations.

Blanchett will be joined by Colin from Accounts’ Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer who’ll take a break from filming the second season of their globally-acclaimed comedy, which is up for 10 awards.

Others to walk the red carpet include US singer Harry Connick Jnr, Teresa Palmer, Marta Dusseldorp, Tom Gleeson, Leah Purcell and powerhouse producer Bruna Papandrea.

Winners will be announced at the ceremony on February 10, which is presented by The Foxtel Group. The new date is to bring the ceremony in line with the international awards schedule.

Voting is currently underway for the popular audience choice awards which run alongside the peer-voted prizes. In this fourth year of the publicly voted gongs, there’s an expanded focus on creators across all platforms and a new sports-focused award.

Fans have until 5pm on January 25 to cast their vote for their favourites stars and shows via dailytelegraph.com.au.

A five-day festival will accompany the AACTA Awards. Spanning February 7-11, the “celebration of film, television, streaming, music, and digital content” will include a day devoted exclusively to First Nations content and creatives, networking hubs, and a Screen Careers Expo.

The 2024 AACTA Awards Ceremony will be broadcast Saturday, February 10, 7pm, on Channel 10. A special director’s cut including all awards from the ceremony will be available on Sunday, February 11 on BINGE, Foxtel On-Demand and on AACTA TV.
