A big American star flew under the radar at Sunday night’s Logies. That was, until host Sam Pang realised he was there.
Saturday Night Live! comedian Will Forte, who starred on the iconic sketch comedy series from 2002 until 2010, slipped into TV’s night of nights at The Star Sydney.
US actress D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place) was also in attendance, with the pair both in Australia filming their new crime comedy series Sunny Nights, produced by Stan.
Returning from an ad break, Pang announced Forte and Carden were special guests in the audience.
“Thank you so much for coming,” Pang said. “Literally had nothing else on … tonight?”
The camera then flashed to both Carden and Forte, the latter pulling a somewhat unimpressed expression as Carden flashed both her middle fingers.
“Little tip for the evening,” Pang went on.
“Drink plenty, and halfway through the night you’ll feel the temptation to fire your agent.
“It will be a miracle if you stay til the end.”
If the Hollywood duo did kick on, they endured a more than four-hour long ceremony with, presumably, limited knowledge on the nominees.
Despite its lengthy runtime, returning host Pang ensured it was an entertaining program with a flurry of gags to keep viewers and guests on their toes.
Channel 7 presenter Larry Emdur finished off formalities on a high with a hilarious speech upon winning the Gold Logie – his first – following four decades on the silver screen.
Singling out one of his highlights from his many years as co-host of The Morning Show – Emdur joked, “interviewing Lindy Klim on her new product, a face mask for vulvas”.
He shared some advice his father had given him when he started out in the industry: Just be nice to everyone. His response? “Dad, I’m trying but there’s so many arseholes in this business. Like, so many …”
Emdur also gave a shout-out to his two adult children, who he noted wouldn’t be watching because they “haven’t watched free-to-air TV in about 15 years.”
