Logies 2024: Kate Langbroek’s comment falls painfully flat

You could hear a pin drop after Kate Langbroek’s bizarre comment onstage at the Logies, which left her co-presenter baffled.

Kate Langbroek's bizarre onstage quip

In perhaps the only awkward moment to emerge from an otherwise successful Logies, Kate Langbroek left her co-presenter baffled after making a bizarre quip onstage.

In an unusual faux pas from the witty The Project panellist, Langbroek presented an award alongside Australian actor Dave Lawson, who is married to Emmy-winning Succession star Sarah Snook.

Opening their bit, Langbroek said, “Dave Lawson. I didn’t think you’d agree to do this because I didn’t think you liked strong women.”

Cue bewilderment from Lawson – and the entire room - who fell painfully silent.

Kate Langbroek's comment triggered confusion in the room.

“I’m very happy here, Kate. Thank you for that,” Lawson responded, before they swiftly got stuck into the nominations.

Speaking to news.com.au in the Logies media room afterwards, Lawson speculated Langbroek was making a reference to his wife Snook, who played the power-hungry Shiv Roy in the critically acclaimed HBO drama. Regardless, he was still left confused.

“I think she was talking about me being married to Sarah Snook, it was a reference to that,” Lawson guessed.

“I didn’t know how to respond to that. I have no problem being near strong women. More strong women around me please.”

News.com.au has contacted Langbroek for clarification.

Logies ‘weirdest moment’ explained

It was a long, yet entertaining evening for guests and viewers alike, largely thanks to comedian Sam Pang nailing his hosting gig for the second year in a row.

Channel 7 presenter Larry Emdur capped off formalities with a hilarious speech after taking home the Gold Logie – his first – following four decades on the silver screen.

Singling out one of his highlights from his many years as co-host of The Morning Show – Emdur joked, “interviewing Lindy Klim on her new product, a face mask for vulvas.”

He shared some advice his father had given him when he started out in the industry: Just be nice to everyone. His response? “Dad, I’m trying but there’s so many arseholes in this business. Like, so many …”

Emdur also gave a shout-out to his two adult children, who he noted wouldn’t be watching because they “haven’t watched free-to-air TV in about 15 years.”

All eyes will be on whether Emdur lives up to his ambitious pre-Logies promise.

Speaking to news.com.au last week, Emdur stated he was so confident he wouldn’t win, he’d get his fellow nominees names tattooed on his arse live on-air Monday if he did.

Now, that is something his kids would surely break their free-to-air hiatus for.
