Unique Vanities: Tassie cabinet maker liquidated by court

A Tasmanian company which operates two carpentry businesses is in the process of being wound up on the orders of the Victorian Supreme Court.

A northern Tasmanian company which operates two carpentry businesses is in the process of being liquidated after an Australian court ordered it be wound up.

UDW Pty Ltd, which operated from premises at Legana Park in the West Tamar and traded as cabinet maker Unique Vanities and joinery Unique Doors and Windows, was ordered into liquidation on July 6 by the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Carlton firm GS Andrews Advisory was appointed to effect the court order.

The application to wind up UDW was originally made on June 2 by Australian Glass Group (Holdings) Pty Ltd, a glass manufacturer headquartered in Melbourne with processing plants at Rokeby and Sydney.

UDW, which is owned by West Launceston director Damian John Whybrow, did not appear in court, nor did anyone appear on its behalf, to argue against the making of the order.

The quantum of UDW’s alleged debt to Australian Glass Group, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Metro Performance Glass Ltd New Zealand, has not been made publicly available.

A spokesman for Metro Performance Glass said the company did not comment on individual client relationships.

Attempts to contact Mr Whybrow were unsuccessful.

A spokeswoman for GS Andrews Advisory said the liquidator was in the process of revealing the fruits of its initial investigations to creditors before preparing a public report into UDW’s activities.

UDW was registered as a company on May 29, 2018.

According to the business’ Facebook page, UDW specialised in “custom made timber vanities... (and) other furniture”.

The business page has not been active since November last year.
