Australian digital receipts platform Slyp has launched an artificial intelligence-powered loyalty platform to help retailers take on the likes of Amazon and better compete online.
The new ‘Go Rewards’ platform is designed to create more personalised online shopping for customers. It will suggest what groceries or goods to buy, based on past purchases, and offer tailored discounts rather than the usual “spray and pray” from retailers.
The platform also features an AI meal planning tool, GoPilot Chef, that will create recipes based on what a customer’s dietary preferences and fitness goals are.
Chief executive and co-founder Paul Weingarth said loyalty was no longer about collecting points in the AI era – and has previously forecast that frequent flyer credit cards will become a casualty in the RBA’s crackdown on surcharges.
“Traditional loyalty has been about how you can shop with us to get more value, like get some points back, cash back or some form of reward,” he said.
“We believe that the future of loyalty – with this evolution or revolution of AI – is all about continuing the conversation with the customer, turning transactions into interactions.
“There’s a growing concern that the pace of AI innovation could leave many retailers behind. We’re focused on helping retailers navigate this change, ensuring they’re equipped with the tools and data they need.”
Go Rewards integrates stock keeping unit level receipt data to deliver actionable insights. Mr Weingarth says it “connects the SKU with the who”, leveraging Slyp’s 35 point of sale integrations.
He said it can also pave the way for AI agents to anticipate a customer’s specific needs and buy items for them autonomously. Visa and Google have launched similar offerings.
“Because we have all the receipt data connected to the customer … we bring as our platform capability, and it’s at turnkey out of the box for all the merchants that come into our ecosystem.
“As a user, I can actually set some foundational settings here – like I want to focus on muscle growth, have any allergies or anything else, what cuisine do I want? It will punch all my receipt data from my last few shops and generate hyper-personalised recipes for me.
“The next step is to obviously go and buy the stuff for me. That’s where agentic commerce comes into play.”
Slyp has also partnered with Visa, Mastercard and Eftpos to allow customers to link their credit and debit cards to their loyalty cards within the Go Rewards app. This means a customer will no longer need to scan a separate loyalty card at the check-out to earn rewards.
Mr Weingarth said retailers also had control of their page within the Go Rewards app.
“Go Rewards is like a house and a merchant has a room. So while we unify the customer experience in one app and one tap, very importantly it’s not our customer. It’s the merchant’s customer, and it’s the merchant’s program. So we are giving merchants their own real estate or room within that house.
“All of that customer information … all that first part data is shared directly with the merchant. And merchants design their own program. It’s all configurable and flexible.
“First-party data is no longer a nice-to-have – it’s the engine powering modern retail. Without it, even the best engagement tools fall short.”
Mr Weingarth said what sets leading retailers apart are loyalty programs that go beyond points and discounts. “The ones that surprise, delight, and build real relationships are the ones that will win in the age of AI”.
Merchants who have signed onto the program include Supabarn, Maloneys Grocer, Ahmadi’s IGA, Gong Grocer and MCQ Supermarket.
Mr Weingarth said the program is initially focusing on everyday spending, such as groceries, before expanding into discretionary items like fashion.
