Local sisters known for making delectable doughnuts are preparing a new cake shop offering even more sweet options.
An extravagant take on iced vovos, mini orange blossom iced Boston buns and great big slices of carrot cake are in the works for the Lady Hester team.
Co-owner Loren Clarke said the quick decision to open a takeaway Lady Hester shop in Battery Point came as COVID-19 prompted a new direction for the small business.
“It’s been difficult and it’s been stressful but we had to rethink it and diversify,” she said.
“We’ve always wanted to have a shop but we’ve always been too busy.”
Lady Hester has previously traded at Farm Gate Market and from their CBD kitchen.
Ms Clarke said she and her sister Erin saw the empty spot in Battery Point where the Art of Tea formerly traded and jumped on the opportunity.
“We’ve been madly recipe testing lots of cakes, we’re doing savoury as well so you can come and get sandwiches and salads,” she said.
Ms Clarke said the new menu items would provide a “fun take on classics”.
“There will definitely be big wedges of yummy cake,” she said.
“Things like scrolls and buns.
“We’ve been doing the doughnuts for six years, that’s what we’re known for, but the most exciting thing is to think of something amazing and make it.”
Ms Clarke said the 52 Sandy Bay Rd spot is set to open in September.
