Sacked real estate agent claims her lashings were for trolls, not renters

The real estate agent who was sensationally fired last week has made a bold claim about who the real target of her unsavoury comments was.

'Trolls call me a gold digger'

The real estate agent sacked after making unsavoury comments on a local Facebook page has made an attempt to settle the score, claiming she was actually ridiculing “trolls” — not renters — and that she was a longtime renter herself.

Aimee Therese Marsh, was fired last Tuesday over inappropriate comments on the social media platform including one claiming renters “probably earn 50k a year and (are) envious of me” and that she paid “twice their wage in tax” and probably paid “their Centrelink wages”.

The 30-year-old was a top performing agent at Ray White Aspley, near Griffin in Brisbane’s north, when she seemed to describe tenants as a “disgrace” and “irrelevant”.

This week however, she hit back at reports her slurs were directed at renters, instead claiming they were meant for people being nasty to her on the internet.

She began being targeted in 2021 after posting to the local community Facebook group that she sold a house $85,000 above its reserve at an auction.

Speaking with Brisbane radio station B105 on Friday, she said she felt despite the outcome of the auction having “nothing to do with me”, people began blaming her for not being able to buy a home.

“It had nothing to do with me – there were two buyers who were battling it out between each other,” she said.

“Unfortunately, that got people off-side who feel like it’s my fault that they can’t get into the housing market because of the prices.

“And then I started becoming the blame for fuel and groceries, and everything else, so the comments that were made were very targeted at me and very rude.”

When she began experiencing hate online, she instinctively lashed out, labelling her critics “nobodies” with low incomes.

Having been relatively new with the company at the time, she completed social media training which she has since claimed failed to include targeted online bullying.

She ultimately snapped last week when she hit back at trolls saying they were “jealous” and she couldn’t “wait to sell their houses”.

In an interview with news.com.au she said she wasn’t “sorry for telling the truth” but apologised to people “who were offended that were not targeted”.

Ms Marsh said her comments were taken out of context and she was disappointed at “people who are so unhappy they try and bring others down”.

The comments have since been deleted, her social media profile has vanished, and her personal accounts have been locked.

Her comments were the result of her going “into defence mode”, she said, adding she felt it wasn’t fair that she wasn’t allowed to respond when people slandered her.

She was upset at her position being terminated but claimed she had been offered ample support from the local business community and was confident she would find another job.

“A lot of business owners actually have my back and have been offering support and checking whether I am okay,” she said.

“It is refreshing. There are opportunities, but at this stage I am just taking a mental break.”

Ray White, told news.com.au that Ms Marsh was fired because her views didn’t align with the business’ values.

“As a result we made the business decision to terminate her employment yesterday,” the company said.

“We respect and value each and every one within our community … We apologise to anyone who may have been offended as well as any members within our community if these views have offended.”

Ms Marsh was offered counselling through Ray White’s employee assistance program.
