A classic kids fishing game sold at Ikea stores across the country has been recalled after it was found to pose a choking risk to small children.

The BLAVINGAD fishing game, composed of dice, fishing rods and various figures, contained small parts that did not comply with mandatory standards for toys for children up to 36 months of age.

Product Safety Australia (PSA) found the toy, sold nationally and online, contains “small parts (that) may pose a choking or suffocation hazard for young children”.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the BLAVINGAD fishing game and contact Ikea for a full refund,” PSA said in a statement.

In its own statement, Ikea said that the recall was taken as a “precautionary” measure.

“Ikea develops its products using a rigorous risk assessment and testing program, to make sure that the products live up to all applicable laws and standards on the markets where they are sold,” the statement read.

“Ikea apologise for any inconvenience and want to thank all customers for their understanding.”
