Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Wednesday, April 2. The ASX 200 index closed 0.1 per cent higher to 7934.50 points before Donald Trump's 'Liberation Day' tariffs announcements.
White House's assertion that Wall Street 'will be just fine' after closing its worst quarter since 2022 kept the Dow Jones index flat. The S&P 500 index gained 0.4 per cent and the technology-focused Nasdaq index climbed 0.9 per cent.
Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin was below $US85,000 at 5pm AEDT.
The Aussie dollar was trading around US62.94c.
